Bella Bulgaria and the Indonesian company PT Garuda Mitra Utama (GMU) signed a memorandum of trade and investment cooperation during the Indonesia-Europe Business Forum, which is held under the patronage of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia (17.10.2023, Jakarta). Official guests at the ceremony were H.E. Iwan Bogananta Ambassador of Indonesia to Bulgaria, Albania and North Macedonia, H.E. Petar Andonov, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to Indonesia and Mayra Myrogianni - General Secretary for International Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hellenic Republic and Chairwoman of the Board of the Enterprise Greece.

The Bulgarian-Indonesian investment has a total value of USD 72 mln. For the development of the field of supply of raw materials for a period of four years USD 34 mln are planned, and USD 38 mln – for the establishment of a joint venture for meat processing in Indonesia.

Bella Bulgaria owns the first and only factory in Europe for the production of the Indonesian delicacy rendang-padang. The company is a strategic partner of the Embassy of Indonesia in Bulgaria under the programme Indonesia: Spice Up the World. H.E. Iwan Bogananta defined the cooperation between Bella Bulgaria and GMU as a continuation of the establishment of a rendang-padang factory in Bulgaria. H.E. Petar Andonov defined Bella Bulgaria as an excellent example of the high competitiveness of the Bulgarian meat processing industry on a global scale.

‘Bella owns food production and distribution bases in Bulgaria, Greece, Romania and Hungary. By actively developing the activity of the rendang-padang factory in Plovdiv, we accumulated knowledge and experience, which we want to implement on a much larger scale in Indonesia. The analyses of the markets and the taste preferences of consumers in the southern hemisphere showed a potential for business growth in the field of meat processing in Indonesia and niches for new players in the markets’, commented the chief operating officer of the Bulgarian company, Dimitar Mitev, on the occasion of the signing.

‘It is an honour for us to announce this strategically important project for Bella Bulgaria and for our country precisely within the framework of this high-level business forum Indonesia-Europe,‘ shared the member of the board of directors of Bella Bulgaria Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikolay Krushkov.

‘This is our first work project for cooperation with an European company and we have the opportunity to produce products based on traditional recipes with spices and herbs that are part of Indonesia's cultural heritage,‘ commented PT Garuda Mitra Utama President Director Hendro Santoso.

The Bulgarian-Indonesian investment project is implemented within the framework of the ‘Rendang Enters Europe’ programme - part of the series of programmes under the Indonesia: Spice Up the World brand, launched by the Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

The project is expected to make a significant contribution to the development of Indonesia's economy through new employment opportunities and promoting the supply of Indonesian products to markets around the world.

The High Economic Forum in Jakarta brought together 300 leading companies in Europe and Indonesia.
