A banitsa made with Familia filo pastry, following a traditional recipe from Kazanlak, was the special surprise for guests at the ‘Bread of the Bulgarian’ festival, held as part of this year’s Rose Festival celebrations.
According to the organizers from the Municipality of Kazanlak, the banitsa, measuring one kilometer in length and weighing over 400 kilograms, is a culinary record. It was prepared over the course of three days and nights. Its filling consists of rose-flavored Turkish delight and it is soaked in rose water syrup.
The ‘Bread of the Bulgarian’ culinary festival is a traditional event for the city, showcasing local culinary heritage to visitors. The Rose Festival in Kazanlak has been held for over 120 years and is now the most visited festival in Bulgaria, attracting over 150,000 guests from both Bulgaria and around the world.
